Nancy (Huen) Singleton, 81, of Murrysville, PA died Thursday, January 14, 2021. She was a generous, caring, and faithful soul. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman R. Singleton; loving mother to Norman Kirk Singleton of Alexandria, VA, and Kirsten (Adam Jacobs) Singleton, of Rockville, MD; and a wonderful and loving grandmother to Gabriel (Gabe) Jacobs; also survived by many cousins and close friends.
Born and raised in North Braddock, she graduated from Scott High School with the class of 1957 and remained close friends with so many of her childhood classmates. She went on to work at Westinghouse in the Atomic Power Department in Forest Hills where she met and married Norman R. Singleton. They were married for nearly 50 years before he passed away in 2011.
Throughout her life she revered the history of Pittsburgh’s industrial peak and helped to conserve it in ways large and small. She and Norm worked diligently to keep the Van de Graaff (atom smasher) from being torn down in Forest Hills. They also repurposed bricks saved from the Monongahela Clay Mfg. Co. (Est. 1902) for a garden path in their yard. She had a particular fascination for trains of the era and collected an extensive set of Lionel O-gauge electric trains with miniature models of Pittsburgh’s iconic steel industry.
She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, and lived her faith with her good works by continuously serving underprivileged communities in the area including literacy programs for children. She especially loved her women’s bible study at the First United Methodist Church in Murrysville.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date when gathering is safe for her extended family and friends in the area.
Arrangements have been entrusted to JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747).
