Jean (Leslie) Chambers

Wilma Jean Chambers, 89, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9th, surrounded by family and friends. Jean was born in West View, PA, the daughter of George and Mary (Priestly) Leslie and sister of George, Nancy, and Ronnie. Jean moved to Turtle Creek, PA in her teenage years, where she graduated from Turtle Creek High School in 1949. Friendships started in high school lasted throughout her lifetime. She married William Chambers in 1950 and they had one son, Kim Robert, born in 1955, who passed away in 1978.

Jean was an active member of Hillcrest Presbyterian Church for most of her life, serving as elder, deacon, and as a soprano in the church choir.  She enjoyed the church crafts group, sewing and distributing lap blankets for the elderly. She was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Pitcairn and Forest Hills Women’s Club. Jean worked for many years as secretary to the head manager of Sears in Wilkins Township.

Jean exhibited a remarkable resilience of spirit; whatever hardships came her way. She constantly looked for the good in everyone. Her appreciation of life’s small blessings buoyed her attitude and encouraged all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her genuine interest in others was a gift to us all, and her striving to follow Christ an example to any who knew her. Her smile and her presence will be greatly missed. Family and Friends will be received on Wednesday May 12, 2021 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 118 Shaw Avenue, Turtle Creek (412-823-1950). Funeral service will be held on Thursday May 13, 2021 at 11 am. Per CDC guidelines, masks will be required upon entry.
